2026 price ranges
Indianapolis Basement Waterproofing Prices for 2026
Typical installed ranges from two national cost guides, named on every line, plus the Indianapolis conditions that move a job up or down within them.
Fixr's 2026 guide puts a typical basement waterproofing project at $3,000–$10,000, with interior perimeter drains at $40–$120 per linear foot and crack injection at $250–$1,000 per crack. These are national typical ranges, not Indianapolis quotes. The price you agree to comes from the specialist after an inspection.

What pushes an Indianapolis job up or down?
- Feet of wall. Interior drain systems are priced by the linear foot, so a long perimeter or a basement with jogs and bump-outs costs more.
- Where the water enters. One weeping crack is a small job. Water along every cove joint after each spring rain points to a full drain system.
- Whether a pit exists. Older basements often have none, so the pit, the pump and a new circuit all land in the price.
- Where the discharge line can run. Citizens Energy Group wants sump water in the yard or a storm sewer, never the sanitary sewer, which can mean a longer line out to a suitable spot.
- Finished walls. Drywall and framing along the perimeter have to come off for interior work, and putting them back is usually extra.
Inside or outside: how the costs compare
This Old House's 2026 guide puts interior solutions at about $3,000 on average and exterior ones at roughly $7,000 or more. Outside work means digging down to the footing, cleaning and coating the wall, and laying drain pipe in gravel. On Marion County's dense, wet till, that digging is slow, and Indiana 811 has to mark buried utilities before it starts; the request is free but needs at least two working days. Interior systems avoid the excavation but bring the water inside to a pump.
Costs that sit outside the table
- A battery backup pump, which Fixr's 2025 guide puts at $150–$250 to add.
- A sealed sump lid, worth asking for in a county EPA places in Radon Zone 1.
- Hauling away soil and old concrete, and patching the slab after trenching.
- Replacing drywall, trim or flooring that was removed for the work.
- Any permit the job needs. The contract law says the work is subject to getting required permits before it starts (IC 24-5-11-9).
For the systems themselves, see interior drain tile and sump pumps and French drains and yard drainage.
Before you sign
- Ask for a written, itemized price that shows linear feet, pump model and discharge route.
- Ask what warranty the contractor offers and what it excludes, in writing.
- Confirm where the sump line will end and that it stays out of the sanitary sewer.
- Under Indiana law, the completed contract must reach you before you sign it, with the work described, the price and approximate dates (IC 24-5-11).
Cost questions
Why do the two guides list different crack injection prices?
They survey different jobs. Fixr's 2026 figure is $250–$1,000 per crack and This Old House lists $800–$1,500. Length, wall thickness and whether the crack is wet when injected all move the price, so treat both as a frame, not a quote.
Is a new sump pump cheaper than a drain system?
Yes, but it solves less. A pump only removes water that reaches the pit. If water enters along all four walls, it needs drain tile to carry it there, which is where most of the cost sits.
Are these Indianapolis prices?
No. They are national typical ranges from Fixr and This Old House. Local labor, access and the condition of your basement decide the actual figure, which the specialist gives after seeing the house.
Does homeowners insurance pay for waterproofing?
Often not for the waterproofing itself. Coverage for seepage and sump backup varies a lot between policies, and backup coverage is sometimes sold as an add-on. Read your own policy or ask your agent before assuming either way.
